William Rothenstein (1872 - 1945)
Born in Bradford, England, he trained as the Slade School of Fine Arts, London, under Alphonse Legros and at the Academie Julien in Paris. Moved back to London in 1894, becoming a member of the New English Art Club and a lifelong friend of Max Beerbohm. He was knighted in 1931.
